2021 Operations Seminar Held Virtually Presents Aggregate Production Basics

On Thursday, March 18th the Plant Operators Committee presented their annual Operations Seminar. This year, however, presented both a challenge and an opportunity. During 2020 the committee, lead by IMI’s Craig Gibson, decided pretty quickly that they wanted to get back to the basics of aggregate production, and present a training tool that could be used multiple times. Even though the seminar could not be held in-person, the opportunity to have the entire training recorded met the committee’s need.

Aggregate Production – Start to Finish featured mini training sessions for each step in the production process. The seminar was a great fit for people just starting out in the aggregates industry. IMAA members taught the basics of production, why certain processes are important, and how production decisions affect the end product.  Presenters during the seminar included Gus Diehr from General Drilling, Steve Malon from Austin Powder, Daniel Miles from Process Machinery, Bill Thaman from Thaman Rubber Company, Joe Schlabach from Deister Machine Company, and Dave Schellberg from McLanahan Corporation.

The entire seminar is already available for those who participated to go back and watch the recordings. As the committee intended, the training course will be available from IMAA for members who would like to use the modules as part of their own employee training.

Each year, the Operations Seminar is one of the most highly rated, directly applicable learning opportunities taking place at the Winter Workshops.
