Association Update from the IMAA Executive Director
Greetings IMAA Members,
I hope this note finds you and your families healthy and safe. As we exhale from a very successful Winter Workshops event and move forward toward the remainder of the year, I just want to take a moment to share a bit of gratitude and communicate with you what the association is doing to continue to provide services to the membership during these un precedented times. A huge thanks goes to all who helped to make Winter Workshops a great success.
As IMAA staff continue to work remotely as part of our best safety practices, we will work hard to coordinate our efforts to be responsive to member needs and push forward with regularly scheduled meetings and non in-person events.
In terms of serving as industry advocates, we continue to make every effort to stay connected and engaged at the state and national levels to keep abreast of news and developments as they relate to our industry and communicate information to you as appropriate. This includes the Governor’s Executive orders, information from the National Stone Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) and the likes. We are also maintaining a close connection with other in-state industry partners to monitor the status of road funding challenges that could affect the viability of the INDOT construction program. We are combining our efforts where needed to address political and other persons who can positively influence the desired outcomes. Currently, compared to some of our neighboring states and their DOTs, we are happy to report that we find the INDOT construction program in a viable economic position at this time. Going forward, we will cautiously monitor the gas tax shortfall effects derived from reduced vehicular traffic as a result of the recent stay at home orders across the state.
On the association activity front, to this point we have held several committee meetings via Zoom and even a recent IMAA Board of Directors meeting; and I am happy to report that they all have gone better than we could have ever expected. During this time of change, we will plan to continue to operate in this manner to help ensure the safety of our members as well as our staff.
So, with that being said, please know that although our office doors are currently closed, we continue to be open for business and stand by ready to serve you our members. In the meantime, please stay safe and continue to employ efforts to help ensure the safety of all of our industry teammates.
Sincerely, Calvin Lee, IMAA Executive Director (calvin@indmaa.org or 317-503-5747)
