2020 IMAA Winter Workshops & Trade Show

January 27-29 at the JW Marriott Indianapolis

After taking a year’s hiatus from the Winter Workshops to co-host an annual conference with NSSGA and Agg 1 in Indianapolis, IMAA came back in 2020 to freshen up its largest member event of the year.

Over 480 members, guests, and speakers attended over the 3-day event at the end of January. The IMAA Trade Show, which also took a break in 2019 for Agg1, featured 60 IMAA Associate members with 14 being first-time IMAA exhibitors. During the Trade Show, IMAA members also raised $3,060 for IMMEP Scholarships through the silent auction and 50/50 raffle.

The event featured a new format for the Awards Luncheon, a new Legislative track of breakout sessions on Wednesday, the new WLMA Workshop that was a stand-alone seminar on Monday, and a closing Keynote speaker on Wednesday. One of the highlights of this year’s Workshops was Keynote Speaker Bill Sandbrook of U.S. Concrete. He talked about choices he made during his life that set him up for success in his career. He also shared the leadership lessons along the way that he then implemented in crisis situations, like providing equipment and support during 9/11. “It was the best presentation of the day—[he] left you with some very important tips on how to conduct yourself on a daily basis to succeed,” one attendee said of Mr. Sandbrook’s presentation.

Another presentation that was standing-room only was the conversation about Changing the Game with Turner Mining Group’s Keaton Turner, Thomas Haun, and Tracy O’Brien. “Keaton is a great speaker and had the attention of everyone in the room,” an attendee in the session said. “They are really changing the game of marketing and showing our industry in a positive light. It’s amazing how quickly they have grown.” The team from Turner Mining discussed their approach to attracting new, young talent to their company by using social media and telling an authentic story of their culture through employee social media engagement.

IMAA would like to thank all of the committees who recruited speakers and planned sessions for this year’s workshop.  The Winter Workshops would not be possible without the leadership of the committee chairs, and the volunteers who support them.  IMAA would also like to thank all of the Producer and Associate members for attending the Workshops and building stronger relationships with one another. Finally, the Winter Workshops would not have been possible without the support of our many great sponsors who are listed below.  Thank you for your continued support of the Association, and we look forward to putting on another great Workshop in January of 2021!
