IMAA PIE Committee Participates in JobSpark for Second Year

For the second year, IMAA sponsored JA JobSpark and participated with a hands-on activity in the Architecture, Engineering & Construction career cluster.  JA JobSpark is a two-day, hands-on career expo for all Indianapolis 8th graders.  The event is meant to “spark” an interest in students and get them excited for their future.  This year, over 10,000 students participated over two days.

Twelve IMAA volunteers over the two days helped to explain the process of mining to the students, and answered questions about their own careers in the aggregates industry.  The IMAA PIE Committee updated the mini quarry activity from last year with a video of a quarry operation mirroring what the students were doing with the remote control vehicles.  Over 800 students participated in the activity or watched their classmates operate the equipment.

The PIE Committee would like to recognize Jon Havens and Kevin Holloway from Irving Materials, Inc. for designing and fabricating the plant and conveyor replicas, and EPIC Imaging Consultants and Rogers Group, Inc. for providing the video.
