INDOT Division of Materials & Tests Updates – December 2022

IMAA Staff | 12/14/22

Coarse Aggregate No. 53 increase in allowable passing No. 200 sieve

At the November 18, 2022 INDOT Standards Committee meeting, proposed changes to the gradation specified in 904.03 for coarse aggregate No. 53 were approved. The change increased the range passing the No. 200 (75 μm) sieve to 5% – 13%. This new range will be reflected in contract documents beginning with the June 2023 letting. It will also be incorporated into the 2024 INDOT Standard Specifications.

In addition, effective immediately, INDOT will accept coarse aggregate No. 53 with the new 5% – 13% range passing the No. 200 (75 μm) sieve for all material produced after the date of this memorandum. Also, this includes all coarse aggregate No. 53 material shipped to existing contracts.

The official Testing Memorandum from December 12, 2022 can be found on INDOT’s website at https://www.in.gov/indot/div/mt/memos/currentTestingMemos.htm
