Irving Materials, Inc. Greenwood Receives 2019 Shining Star Award

IMAA Staff | 02/26/20

Tim Henry accepts the 2019 Shining Star Award for IMI Greenwood.

The Environmental Stewardship Council created the “Shining Star” Award to recognize facilities that demonstrate qualities above and beyond the basic ESC compliance guidelines.  Environmental Requirements, Public Safety, Community Relations, Operational Practices, Reclamation & Rehabilitation, and Environmental Enhancement are considered in determining those operations that truly stand out from the rest.

The 2019 Shining Star Award recipient has been a consistent recipient of the Gold Excellence in Mining Award and has a record of going over 12 years with no lost time accidents. They are a five-year IMAA safety award winner with 132 years of service among their eight employees.

This location is an active member of the Johnson County Wellhead Protection Committee and has submitted hundreds of water samples from wells on their property for testing to confirm the low impact of mining in a well head protection area.

They support their local community by providing facilities for the local fire department training of underwater rescue, ice rescue, entrapment, and open water rescue as well as pump testing.  Their facility is also used by the county sheriff mounted patrol search and rescue training, K-9 search and rescue, and the Indianapolis S.W.A.T. team’s long- range shooting school

Other community activities include supporting three Eagle Scout projects, Retired Navy Seal projects, and the Shop with a Cop program yearly.

While being compliant with all Local, State and Federal environmental regulations, they have also rebuilt 1500 feet of County Road, at no expense to Johnson County, for heavy truck and equipment access.  Driving down State Road 37, one can see that they have constructed 1 mile of visible barrier mounds and landscaped with spruce and hardwoods for beautification and curb appeal.

The actions and accomplishments of their employees can be summed up in a simple statement. “We’re Proud of our Work!”

On behalf of the IMAA Environmental Stewardship Council, it is our pleasure to present the 2019 Shining Star Award to the Greenwood Sand and Gravel location of Irving Materials, Inc.
