Personnel Updates at INDOT Division of Materials & Tests

Guest Contributor | 07/18/22

Beginning this month, Kurt Sommer has accepted the Strategic Process Improvement Engineer position with the Division of Materials and Tests.  The position will focus highlighting and driving key improvements to INDOT’s materials acceptance programs, focusing heavily on evaluating risk and utilizing innovative processes and materials to improve project quality, better balance the utilization of INDOT resources, and most efficiently be a good steward of taxpayer dollars.

Kurt will be tasked with developing and gathering ideas for improvements and developing plans for implementation.  To this end, he will be setting up meetings with key stakeholders to solicit ideas and discuss changes to specs and procedures, including with your groups, so I ask that you participate as much as possible in the coming months as we get this effort off the ground.

Kurt served the first 40 years of his career with INDOT Crawfordsville District, the most recent 32 years as Crawfordsville District Testing Engineer.  Kurt will bring his wealth of knowledge about materials, Testing, and INDOT to the position.  Kurt will continue to act as Crawfordsville DTE for the near future.

Effective Monday July 11, 2022, Ms. Melissa Ehrhart will be joining our team as the new State Geologist.  Melissa (or Missy) was most recently the Fort Wayne District Geologist for the past 7 years.  Prior to that, Missy worked for a private consultant for 4.5 years performing environmental geology tasks.  She has a Bachelor’s degree in Geology from Indiana University.
