Presidential Overburden – July 2022
Hello IMAA Members,
We are now more than halfway through a year that has presented many challenges, but at the same time has brought great prosperity to our industry. The association is focused on keeping up with the demands of our members and addressing their organizational goals. We continue to recognize the importance of working together to keep our association strong and productive.
The backbone of IMAA are the various committees that regularly meet to assess and discuss the many challenges that exist in our industry. I want to personally thank each individual who volunteers their time to participate on a committee and regularly attends events. I also want to encourage each one of us to look around our organizations and identify team members not currently involved, and urge them to consider participation in the future. As you will notice in this edition of the newsletter, there are many progressive things that are being accomplished through our association and member contribution is key to the overall success.
One area to highlight that the IMAA is very proud of is the Excellence in Leadership Program. We recognize that developing future leaders is extremely critical to the success of our industry as well as each individual organization. The program is in its second year and has already generated great momentum in a short period of time. This year’s class includes individuals from many different backgrounds and recent feedback indicates they are working on some exciting topics that will ultimately be presented to the Board of Directors during the Winter Workshop.
The IMAA staff and Board of Directors constitutes many years of experience and stands ready to help wherever needed. The Board and staff understand that the mining industry is an inherently dangerous business and will continue to keep safety on the forefront. As you may be aware, the association offers a variety of safety training and I would like to suggest contacting the IMAA staff for information of how this program can help your organization.
The association remains financially stable but recognizes the need to adjust with the ever changing environment. The Board of Directors recently voted in favor of raising annual dues for all member companies, which moving forward will place the association in a better financial position. The increase in dues revenue is necessary to allow the association to continue providing high quality services to our membership that each has benefited from over the years and expects. I want to commend the work of the IMAA staff and Dues Committee for their efforts addressing this topic.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and the IMAA staff, we want to again thank all members for your continued involvement that helps make the IMAA a great association year in and year out. We look forward to supplying quality services and programs in the future and will continue to take the necessary steps to improve our members’ overall experience. Please have a safe and healthy second half of the year.
Take care, stay well and be safe.
Kris Luce, IMAA 2022 Board President
