IMAA Staff | 11/10/23

This past summer, for the first time in four years, the IMAA and the Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) came together for three days of networking, education, and fun! Held in Bourbon City (aka Louisville, Kentucky) at the downtown Hotel Distil, this event was infused with southern charm and included a mix of educational training, a rooftop reception in downtown Louisville, visits to Churchill Downs and the Louisville Slugger Museum, golf, and stops on the Urban Bourbon Trail.

Educational sessions included the following:

Leading with a Wellness Mindset Workshop

Workshop facilitator Julie Gahimer, PT, HSD, from the University of Indianapolis guided participants in this workshop that focused on leading through the lens of wellness. According to Gahimer, mindsets are beliefs, attitudes and expectations. They represent the person that you are, as well as how you connect and interact with others in the workplace. Workshop attendees explored strategies for leading with passion and perseverance, as well as effective role modeling and mentorship. Topics included:

  • Understanding “why” mindsets and how to empower a stronger workplace team
  • Appreciating how growth and fixed mindsets influence decision making and action taking
  • Exploring how the six dimensions of wellness can contribute to a productive work environment
  • Applying principles of grit, positivity, creativity, and resilience to create a healthy work environment

Economic Outlook

Presenter Michael W. Clark, PhD, Director of the Center for Business and Economic Research and Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business and Economics, conducts applied economic and policy research focusing on labor, health, and economic development issues. His insight and evidence based research helped shed light on the future of construction and economic impacts on the aggregate and concrete industries.
